Chloe's story
Chloe is a beautiful and extraordinary little girl. Born on the 21st of November 2000, making her a millennium baby, her short life has been an incredible journey for her and for us her parents. If Chloe could tell you her story, she would, but she has severe learning difficulties and has trouble communicating with others, this is because she has Autism.
When Chloe was born all seemed normal, as parents we thought our biggest decisions would be, breast feeding or bottle, disposable nappies or reusable and in the news was the big MMR debate.
Chloe’s condition, is complicated and difficult for us to manage, she has regular temper tantrums and can self harm. Currently she is on medication to help with her condition.
We first noticed problems with her at around 12 months old, as she did not seem to take any interest in her surroundings, make any form of eye contact, or respond to things like squeaky toys.
Finally we took her to our doctor, where she had several tests done including blood tests, these all proved inconclusive. Chloe then regualy attended a special nursery where teams of specialist health professionals observed her. Around 12 months later, we were given the news that she had been diagnosed as having autism.
Despite Chloe’s condition, she has a enormous capacity for fun and love. She has a sister, called Kayleigh who is 2 years old, Chloe is a solitary child and prior to the birth of her sister she would never take any notice of other children or joined in with group activities.
From the age of two, we put her into a nursery called Intoplay. The staff here were brilliant and although Chloe was the only child in the nursery that had autism, she was given plenty of help and support.
From the age of three Chloe was statemented, this is a report on her condition and special educational needs. This paved the way for her to attend a special school. At five she started school, at the Milestones in Gloucester. The school, is fantastic and has great facilities and staff. Chloe is currently in the Blue group at school and is in a small class of five other pupils. The small class size, means each child can get one on one care, with an educational plan tailored to there individual needs.
